I was in a brewing type of mood today despite Scars of Mirrodin showing up. I still feel theres room for new builds in standard and apparently I’m onto something. I took this deck to a 4-0 in the daily event, splitting in the end for the qualifier points. At first this was a mono green version of elfs but I was having an extremely hard time with Soul Sisters and Valakut, there just weren’t enough answers in green. So naturally we needed to add a splash and red had the most efficient answers to all the problem decks we were facing. Lightning Bolt, Mark of Mutiny, and Forked Bolt all shined in this event for me. The burn spells are for Mythic, Soul Sisters, and Naya. Where as the Mark of Mutiny is built for the ramp decks that drop one bomb on turn 4-5. The hopes are that you have board presence and have damaged them enough that when they drop there creature you can Mark of Mutiny it next turn for the kill. And it pretty much worked out that way in this video. There are lots more videos showing some of the insane plays this deck can truly have. 11+ mana on turn 5-6 is more than doable. Even with three mana on the board I’ve had 10+ creatures in play. It’s really a lot of fun to play.
I also feel that a similar style deck is going to be more than playable post rotation. Elf’s seem to have lots of powerful efficient cards. But we’ll see before long. For now this deck has potential to beat any tier 1 deck. So if you’re looking for something new, look no further!
I hope to post more matchup information in the near future. For now enjoy another episode of the Meta-Call.

Really sorry about the quality but I had some interest and wanted to get it right up on the site.

Have you given it a go against other big hitters like Dredgevine or Pyromancers?
Dredgevine is a fairly easy matchup unless they can turn 2 Vengevine you. Even then you fill up your board fairly fast and can usually Vengevine chump followed by a bbe. Pyromancer game 1 is tough if you don't come out fast. But about 50/50
Well I've only been playing magic for just over a year, but in that time I've never played an Elf deck. I think I'll give this one a try at FNM this week.
I really like this list. i've always been a big fan of the original eldrazi green. i don't have any vengevines but i would love to try this out if i get a chance to before bloodbraid and sarkhan eat it. on a side note i had to type this out three times cause i didn't put in the damn captcha thing.
@Mike - Let me know how you do. The sideboard has changed a little but I'll update soon! Thanks for checking it out.
What do you sideboard out against what match ups? I was testing this deck out and I just can't figure out what you take out. I understand what you put in, just not what you take out.
Vs valakut
-2 eldrazi monument
-1 khalni hydra
+3 mark of mutiny
Vs pyromancers (sb added enchant hate)
-2 monument
-1 sarkhan
+3 naturalize
Vs mythic
-2 baloth
-1 khalni hydra
-1 overrun
-2 sarkhan
+2 forked bolt
+2 lightning bolt
+2 combust
New sideboard
3 mark of mutiny
3 obstinate baloth
2 forked bolt
2 lightning bolt
2 combust
3 naturalize
Ever think about maybe putting in Mul Daya Channelers instead of the Leatherback Baloths?
Played the deck at FNM tonight. I had to put Garruk in for Sarkhan as I couldn't find mine and I ran out of time to look.
I ended up going 2-1 in a 3 round FNM. We had a really poor turn out tonight of 8 people when we usually have double that at least.
Round one I played a blue/red mill deck. It wasn't even close. I kind of felt bad for the guy it was over so fast.
Round two I played against Jund. Fuck Jund. I get land flooded two games in a row and Jund just does what it does.
Round three was awesome. I played against Dredgevine. I ended up winning 2-1, but it was CLOSE.
Game one it came down to one turn. If he didn't get me that turn, I was coming next turn. We were both using Shamans, Vengevines, it was crazy. Eventually he fly's over and get's me.
Game two I side in the burn suite. He plops down a doppleganger and I burn it away. Fauna Shaman dies as well. I keep sneaking in small amounts of damage and eventually he's at 1. We stablize and the board is a mess. Neither of us can attack profitably. I put my hand on my deck and smile. "Lightning Bolt" I call. Draw and flip... Lightning bolt. We're the last game going and the watchers errupt in cheers. That's the only time in like two years I've managed to call a card like that..lol
Game three we battle away again. The board again stablizes. He forces some blocks, mills away and he now has all 4 vengevines in the graveyard with a doppleganger on the battlefield. I'm dead next turn. He's tapped out though and only has one Bird of Paradise as a blocker. I have a Bloodbraid elf and two Joraga Treespeakers in play. He's at 16. He's praying I can't do lethal. In my hand I have Overrun, Bloodbraid and the land I just pulled. I Bloodbraid into a Joraga, bring back a Vengevine, and cast Overrun.
I wish there were more rounds but overall a pretty solid deck. I have to tune the sideboard to our meta, but not bad at all. Now I just have to find out where my Sarkhan's went.
I should have added in game three I knew I was dead next turn because he had used fauna shaman to ditch a Vengevine to search up an Extractor Demon. With the Doppleganger in play already, I was dead to two Demon's flying over.
Played the deck tonight with a few changes...
-7 Forest
-2 Sarkhan Vol
-3 Overrun
+2 Garruk Wildspeker
+3 Tectonic Edge
+4 Verdant Catacombs
+3 Overwhelming Stampede
White Weenie Control 2-1
Guy was playing a funky mono white weenie deck with tons of control and critters that get bonuses with equipment. Destroyed him the first game, second game he had crazy amounts of control including 3 paths, 2 o-rings and a Day of Judgement. Third game I got him with Garruk's ultimate.
RDW 2-0
Played against a guy who was piloting a pretty crappy RDW. Didn't really put up much of a fight in either match.
UW Control 2-0
Another fairly easy match. Won the first game pretty easily, but got slowed down in the second after taking a couple hits from a Baneslayer, but then I was able to get a Monument into play. The turn after, for some reason, the guy played a Martial Coup and killed his Baneslayer and Wall of Omens and I flew in and finished him off on my turn.
Soul Sisters 2-0
First game I had a good start, but then he got out a couple Soul Wardens and a Pridemate and started getting life back. I ended up doing 31 points of damage in one turn with 3 creatures after popping Garruk's ultimate and then casting Overwhelming Stampede.
Second game he didn't have much of a chance as I had a Lightning Bolt, Forked Bolt and Combust in my opening hand.
I have to say it is a very fun deck to play. I did do some play-testing beforehand against mono-green Eldrazi ramp and won roughly 1/3 of the games. Usually on the back of Mark of Mutiny.
I really like the combination of Garruk and Overwhelming Stampede and for me I think it works better than Sakhan and Overrun. I did have some problems in a couple games when I had only one red source from Rootbound Crag or Raging Ravine and they got Tec Edged or became the victims of Spreading Seas. I think I might try changing out the land base a bit and fitting a couple of mountains in there.
